How Often Do You Experience “Flow”?
Hungarian psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi became famous by studying optimal experiences. His findings revealed that what makes an experience genuinely satisfying is a special state of optimal functioning he labeled “flow.” During a flow state a person experiences deep fulfillment, creativity, and a sense of total involvement in the moment; they become one with their experience and consequently lose their sense of ego.
Avrom King was thinking about flow when he said, “As a person’s values become more and more clear, the range of choices narrows until, ultimately, there is no choice. Then one is free!” This is the freedom to function more in the right brain, the seat of our creativity and subsequent source of our sense of happiness and fulfillment.
