Why the Vote Leave campaigns maths and promises don’t add up

Vote Leave say that if we left we would have 200 million a week to spend in the uk.

Lets say they continue to support the same projects as the eu does in the uk for the moment so they are left with 120 million a week.

They say they would have 120 million a week to spend on the NHS and other projects.

They also say if we left we would do trade deals with the world.

The first one would probably be the EU as it is our biggest trading partner. Seems reasonable.

The point Vote Leave forget to mention is what that deal would look like?

How much would they need to pay into the eu budget in order to benefit from access to the single market? 44% of our goods and services are sold there after all.

At the moment we pay 120 million and have free movement of people, pool some sovereignty and have a decent set of votes.

Do they think they could negotiate a deal where we paid less, have controlled movement of people and got back more sovereignty?

If I was on the other side of the table and understand that free movement for the UK is an issue and was willing to budge on this and also on sovereignty, I don’t think I would also say you can also pay less for access to the single market. That is a deal far better than EFTA or anyone within the EU today.

So I think we can reasonably assume that Vote Leave would still have to pay AT LEAST 120 million a week.

What this means is Vote Leave are lying to the public when they say we would have this money to spend on the NHS. It is not reasonable or in my opinion ethical to say that we would.

Someone please ask Vote Leave this question.
