Dune’s LEGO Set Attempts To Break The Laws Of Physics

Dune’s Ornithopter is like a flappy bird, but cooler. But is the cool-factor enough to make it fly with LEGO fans?

LEGO has traditionally added a note to sets containing boats stating they do not float, or that they do when that exception is applicable. When it comes to airplanes, helicopters, rockets, and jets, I imagine the Danish toymaker assumed nobody was daft enough to think their brick-built flying machines would ever be capable of flying, hence the lack of a similar note. When it comes to Dune’s LEGO Ornithopter, however, I almost feel like some sort of disclaimer should have been placed on the box because this sci-fi flying miracle will give you every impression that it can do the physically impossible — get airborne. Except it can’t. Not even if this would exist in the real world, as it would have to break the laws of physics.

But when in the LEGO world… everything isn’t just awesome, everything is also possible, including a helicopter-like vehicle that flies like a bird, with giant flapping wings.

If it looks like a bird, flies like a bird and sounds like a giant chainsaw, it’s probably an ornithopter.
