The LEGO minifigure series have been around since 2010. For the uninitiated, LEGO minifigures of course have a far longer history starting in 1978, and if you want to include the legless, armless precursors, then as far back as 1975. They were a hit since the early days, but their true potential only became apparent to the Danish toymaker in 2010 when they released their first minifigure series with 16 different figures. That initial series sold so well that to this day, those minifigures sell for a small fortune as LEGO simply couldn’t produce enough for everyone to have a chance to collect all 16 of them. Since then, 26 more series have been produced, with another additional 20 special edition series. They all had one thing in common though: all came in unmarked packaging, giving fans a random chance of collecting all minifigures from a series. Until now.

Having to buy a minifig blindly, hoping you get the one you want was one of the most controversial decisions LEGO made in the past 20 years.
