Merry Brixmas! Even The Grinch Needs A Bit Of Festive Charm
So I built the LEGO Poinsettia to bloom for a thousand Christmases. Not that I’m gonna see most of it…
I mean, 1000 years is a long time. If I play my cards right, karma isn’t out to get me, and the world doesn’t annihilate itself, I probably have about 50 years to go, and just as many to enjoy my new LEGO Poinsettia. But because LEGO is made of plastic, it will outlive me. By a lot. Apparently, some scientists have analysed the LEGO bricks and concluded that it could take as many as 1300 years to decompose. That’s enough time for both the Gulf Stream and the AMOC to collapse and regenerate. Whether we’re still here to witness it all, is an entirely different question. My LEGO Poinsettia will be, though, so I guess LEGO — humans, 1:0. And they say we don’t build things to last anymore… 😅
After that healthy dose of Grinchy cynicism, you may wonder why even bother decorating your Christmas windowsill or table with a festive LEGO set? It’s a fair question that I keep asking myself every year I buy yet another LEGO Christmas set… or three. Unfortunately for our wallets, the answer is always because they look cool and need zero taking care of. Then there’s also the joy of building something you haven’t built before. Finally, ending up with something built…
