Why LEGO’s Tudor Corner Is Every Architect’s Nightmare

When LEGO announced its modular building set for 2025 — the Tudor Corner — for the vast majority of fans it was love at first sight, so much so, that even yours truly rushed to the LEGO store on release day morning to pick one up. And I never, and I mean never, buy LEGO modular buildings. They’re a terrible LEGO “gateway drug”. Once you start buying them, you can’t stop, and that’s a problem when they don’t come cheap and take up a considerable amount of shelf-space. A collector’s wallet’s nightmare. And on this occasion, apparently an architect’s nightmare too.
It took just a few days for reviews to start calling the set as an “architectural abomination”, and what was just days before an almost universal love for the set, it started souring. Believe it or not, LEGO fans can be vicious creatures, and name-calling is almost as commonplace as you’d see in political conversations. In the Tudor Corner’s case it’s difficult to decide which camp to side with, as you’ll see there is some truth to what architects are displeased with when it comes to the design of the building.
