Social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok have changed the world of advertising by streamlining access to young audiences for these businesses. These businesses have fully noticed it and decided to use it as a tool to get their brand and products out to a wider audience than they have ever had access to. This has been a massive change in the advertising world, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Since social media came along, it has completely switched how people interact and communicate with one another. With billions of users engaging on these apps every day, it has made these companies want to invest a majority of their advertising funds into these apps in hopes to increase their brand presence and connect better with their target audience.

One of the biggest advantages to these platforms for businesses is that they can have greater access to niche communities through the algorithms that these apps use. This allows brands to tailor their messaging for their specific target audience. Through targeted ads, sponsored content, and strategic placements, businesses can seamlessly integrate into users’ feeds, capturing their attention and driving conversions by using these influencers to get disguised ads into the feeds of their consumers. Social media influencers have known for a while that they can use their platform to make more money than they had ever thought possible by influencing their audiences’ purchasing decisions. The algorithms on these apps tend to organize their users into a few different categories, like people who are into the fashion industry, fitness, gaming, sports, and many others. Since people like them so much because of the content that they post and the popularity that they have gained from the platform, it makes them valuable partners for many brands looking to connect with consumers in an organic and somewhat of a disguised manner.

There are influencers that even move into “content houses” together out in places like LA so that they can, in a way, pool their followings so that they are all making videos together, their chances of getting more popular is pretty much multiplied by however many people are in the video. Unlike traditional celebrities, influencers are able to connect between brands and consumers with a sense of intimacy and trust. Their constant engagement with followers and organic content connect deeply with their audience, making them very important to the businesses. This new age of influences will forever have a very big impact on the advertising industry. I myself am majoring in social media and digital communication which as I have also noticed, is a growing industry which keeps growing fast. To conclude, the growing landscape of social media and digital advertising as a whole is going to forever change how we receive our advertisements as consumers, and social media users. It is important to recognize this because as they develop, the ads can become more tricky, and some of the time, you’ll go to purchase a product and then think to yourself, how did I even get here? This is the trick that these brands are getting better and better at taking advantage of to sell you more.
