A Wicked Attitude
Conquering the world from Austria — The story of Wikitude
In every field, you will find path makers, who dared to do something different, something out of the box. Wikitude is a similar story.
Wikitude by Wikitude GmbH is a first of it’s kind mobile Augmented Reality (AR) technology provider for smartphones, tablets and digital eyewear. It provides a range of features and extensions that allow developers to create customised augmented reality experiences.
The initial focus of this company based in Salzburg, Austria was on providing location based AR experiences through the Wikitude World Browser App.
With the launch of its own Wikitude Software Development Kit (SDK), it added features like image recognition and tracking, and the powerful geolocation technology to its already wide and ever expanding array of features.
With the launch of its Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) technology in 2017, Wikitude enabled object recognition and tracking, along with markerless instant tracking, making their platform all the more powerful. This is because the list of the previously available features included 3D Model Rendering, Video Overlay, and location-based AR, which we have already mentioned above.
Wikitude SDK swiftly became its core product by virtue of being a power packed and cross-platform software that is not limited by its device compatibility like Google’s AR Core and Apple’s AR Kit which it integrated. This boosted platform compatibility allows it to work seamlessly across Android, iOS and Windows devices, which account for most devices in the world, and support a wide range of developmental frameworks, to maintain its relevance in the Developers Community.
The integration of the aforementioned AR Core and AR Kit have allowed Wikitude, already armed with its arsenal of features, to be one of the most powerful AR platforms out there. It is on its way to become the all-in-one SDK that every developer dreams of, catering to their each and every need and demand.
