The participation of women in the workforce have been increasing, with more women rising above their traditional roles as homemakers and working in MNCs, law firms, schools, and even running their own companies. This increased participation has brought with it a new set of challenges. More women are relocating because of their work and thus require affordable and safe accommodation. Project Bridge is an initiative set up focusing on providing residential facility to working individuals as well as students.

This project is inspired from various other projects who contributes in finding housing facilities to working women.

1- YWCA Central Alabama’s Housing Department

Probus Women’s Housing Society was formed in 1948, UK to provide good quality affordable accommodation for single working women at a time when inequalities of pay and the rules of financial institutions forced many women into sub-standard housing .They provide safe and secure affordable accommodation for single working women throughout the UK.

4- The Housing Choice Voucher

The Housing Choice Voucher program by US government provides assistance to very low-income families to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing. Housing can include single-family homes, townhouses and apartments and is not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects. Housing choice -vouchers are administered locally by Public Housing Agencies (PHAs). A family that is issued a housing voucher is responsible for finding a suitable housing unit of the family’s choice where the owner agrees to rent under the program. A housing subsidy is paid to the landlord directly by the PHA on behalf of the participating family. The family then pays the difference between the actual rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by the program.

5- Bridge of Hope

Bridge of Hope program mainly concentrates on the provision of rental assistance. Rental assistance is typically provided on a decreasing basis over a period of 6 to 12 months. The amount of rental assistance is based on each woman’s individual circumstances and plans for financial stability and is determined in consultation with the program staff implementing the Bridge of Hope model. Rental assistance enables women to pursue job training and education to increase earning potential, pay down back debts/fines, develop positive budgeting skills, and possibly even establish an emergency savings fund, all while meeting the basic needs of their families.

7- MSR student living homes

8- NEW Economics for Women

By participating in their programs and services, women and families address behavioral economic habits which simultaneously builds their financial knowledge and self-confidence.

10- Housing Opportunities for Women

Housing Opportunities for Women is at the forefront of a national movement to provide Housing First. They have been significantly expanding affordable, supportive housing to help the growing number of Chicago and Evanston families dealing with housing insecurity and homelessness while providing them with the support services needed to empower them toward lifelong self-sufficiency.

11- The Women’s Housing Company (WHC)

The Women’s Housing Company (WHC) is a not-for-profit community housing provider delivering affordable housing for single women on limited incomes throughout the Sydney Metropolitan area. They are the only housing provider offering long-term housing to single women without dependent children. They proactively pursue opportunities to engage with tenants on a regular basis through various participation and engagement activities. By encouraging tenant feedback and input, they actively promote tenant rights including the right to complaint and appeal, and support tenants to access all types of assistance.
