“I know what funders look for when they make their decisions. I’m helping entrerpeneurs to make sure their business model is built properly, from a funder’s perspective”.

Ron Flavin

Ron Flavin works in the growth and funding sector, allowing him to provide a unique yet crucial perspective to the projects he is working on. Ron’s insight in finance and investment is critical when working with projects that are socially driven and lack the background and knowledge in acquiring investment and financial support.

Ron Flavin has been a part of the Bridge for Billions community through his work as a mentor to Robert Sanders, a socially driven entrepreneur developing a behavioral strategy management app to prevent schoolyard bullying and increase student’s school experiences. Robert’s app, Pecons, is working towards creating a tool that will capture a wide range of student data in order to evaluate anti-bullying and other social and emotional learning activities in schools, hoping to address bullying using preventative, educative methods.

Ron mentors at Bridge for Billions because he enjoys being a part of a platform where he can learn about and be involved in new, innovative projects that are going to shakeup the startup industry. Ron strongly acknowledges the importance of having guiding figures, or official mentors, especially in early stages of business development. Ron was inspired to join Bridge for Billions as a mentor because within his career, although he was surrounded by successful entrepreneurs that inspired him and his work, he himself never had a formal mentor.

Moreover, he does agree that mentoring comes with its challenges. “My biggest challenge as a mentor is remembering that not everyone shares my world view.” He believes mentoring is as beneficial for him as it is for the entrepreneur, as it has opened his eyes to different perspectives and widened his worldview, “I overcome the challenges [of mentoring] by putting myself in the other person’s situation, and look at things from their perspective”.

Ron believes it is important for people with a lot of experience in the industry to get involved in any way they can because he believes that helping other entrepreneurs to succeed is important to one’s success. “Entrepreneurship has the power to change the world, that’s why I believe it is important that as a successful, self-made entrepreneur, I share my experiences with others. Knowing that I helped someone to succeed in their entrepreneurial endeavours is a great reward… I like to see people succeed”.
