The law of attraction called to me, as it called to many folks I knew in the 90s. The news was, you could manifest the aspects of life you most wanted using affirmations. Some people asked for cars, money, and riches. I thought asking for love, peace, and wisdom were good ideas. Wealth, of course, wouldn’t hurt, either.

Oh, how misinformed we were!

We gave the universe our shopping lists like we used to give Santa letters explaining what we longed to get in our Christmas stockings as children.

Plenty of my pals still try to attract what they want using the LOA (law of attraction).

I stopped asking long ago, though, when I recognized my mistake.

I cottoned on after listening to somebody on a radio show interview. He talked about the power of prayer. I’m not religious, and hadn’t realized affirmations were similar until then.

He said it was a shame that so many people asked for things when they prayed, but never stopped to give thanks.
