Dying Daily to Wake Up
Awakening in tiny steps with mindfulness
“A man may be born, but in order to be born he must first die, and in order to die he must first awake.”
― George Gurdjieff
It’s shocking to realize you’ve slept through life. Only, you weren’t lying in bed snoring.
You went about your daily routine as normal. One moment loving and laughing, and in another, crying and sighing.
You ran along familiar tracks like a train, stopping at each station you’ve always stopped at, and racing through the landscape without eyes to see.
If someone stepped in your path, you paused and reacted your usual way, then chugged onward, unaware you were stuck on the same old tracks.
Those tracks took you to the same places you had always been, so today was the same as yesterday. You thought they differed, but any differences were minute, like dust particles.
Events only change your course when they are gigantic boulders, forcing you to swerve.
Other than that, you repeat your daily journey again and again, never knowing you’re asleep.
If only you would wake up, you could change your destiny.
