Writer’s life
The Issue You Might Not Know Affects Work-From-Home Writers
No one talks about this. It can’t only apply to me, can it?
It’s 6 am. I yawn, let the dog out, and grab my clothes on the way to the bathroom to get dressed. I reach for my trousers (pants if you’re in America). They are cheap nurses’ trousers, purchased in bulk online, and poorly made. The waistband is a touch too big and unevenly sewn. The legs are too long.
I turn them up twice.
I pull a buttoned summer cardigan over my head, place a long tee shirt over the top, and follow this interesting ensemble with an oversized shirt my husband threw out that I rescued.
There. I’m dressed and ready to begin the day.
But when I glance in the mirror, I hear my departed grandmother’s voice between my ears.
“What on earth are you wearing, Bridget?”
It’s okay Nan (I call her Nan). I’m a work-from-home writer.
“One of the best things about working from home as a writer is that you can wear whatever you want. Even pajamas,” said the author interviewed in the podcast.
I recall my smug smile while listening.
