Thinking about learning a new language? This story offers five great reasons to why you should learn Spanish.

Change the way you travel

Have you ever dreamed about visiting that dream beach or that exotic place far away from home, but were scared that you wouldn’t be able to say a word to the natives? Well, knowing Spanish can change that. Spanish is spoken in most of central and south America, and of course, in Spain.

Knowing how to communicate in Spanish will make your life much easier. It can be frustrating to travel to a different country and end up confined in your hotel because you can’t speak a word of the local language. Knowing Spanish can make you more independent when traveling. You can read signs and menus, ask for directions, and even tell the cab driver where to go without getting lost. All these things can take your traveling experience to the next level.

Keep your brain healthy

Several studies show that learning a second language can keep your brain sharp for longer and improve your cognitive skills. A recent study goes as far as showing that learning a second language can delay the onset of dementia.

Learning a second language is certainly a challenge to your cognitive system. However, that challenge will keep your brain working and, therefore, active and healthier for longer.

Expand your horizons

Spanish is a global language. More than 400 million people speak Spanish around the world, with most Latin Americans being native speakers. If you always wanted to make new friends in a different country and connect with the Latino community, Spanish is key.

Furthermore, the Spanish language is one of the fastest growing languages in the world. Also, the Spanish-speaking community is the fastest growing community in the United States. There are more than 50 million speakers in the United States alone and it’s the most spoken language in the Americas. Without knowing Spanish, you might miss the opportunity to communicate with all those people!

Improve your English

Learning Spanish can help you improve your English by familiarizing yourself with vocabulary words that have common Latin roots. There are many words in the English language that have origins in Latin. Since Spanish is a romance language, it can open a world of vocabulary words that will help you better understand your own language and even sound smarter.

Fun and easy to learn

Spanish is one of the easiest languages to learn, and although the grammar is different from English grammar, it won’t be hard to pick up. Again, there are a lot of words in the English vocabulary that come from Latin, so you will probably recognize a decent amount of words to start with. Also, the grammar is easier than English grammar, so you can start communicating even if your proficiency is not at an advanced level.

There are so many factors that make Spanish a fun language to learn, but probably the most important ones are music and literature. Listening to music is a great way to practice a new language, and there is no doubt that Latino music is a lot of fun. Also, if you like literature, there are many great world famous authors in the Spanish-speaking community so you won’t be disappointed.

Learning Spanish will not only be fun, but it will also help you in many ways. By learning Spanish, you will open many doors for yourself and it might be the first step to something amazing in your future.
