Key Dates
Important dates for your diary.
Earlier this week we held the first BDF17 Town Hall Meeting of the year to share our news and hear your plans. We announced details of the arts and education programme, spread the word about our co-commission with the British Science Festival and revealed key dates to make note of.
Here’s what you need to know
The first thing to note is that the festival dates have moved. Rather than running throughout September as they have done in the past, BDF will this year run from 14 September — 13 October. The main reason for this shift is to give schools and university students a greater opportunity to be involved.
As you will have noticed the full website is currently down for maintenance but the aim is to have this up and running again by 12th May. In the meantime check out the blog and social media for updates.
Start submitting your event from end June and have it complete by the time the online events listing goes live in mid-July. You will be able to submit an event to the online listings right up until 13 September. Please note that events will not be published online or in the printed programme until they are complete with all required information, including a high resolution image, details of venue, date, and an excerpt for printed programme. To ensure your event is listed in the printed programme it must be completely submitted online by midnight 6th August.
For more information about how to organise and run a successful event come along to our Community Meet Ups on the first Wednesday of every month. The first of these meet ups will take place on Wednesday 3 May, venue TBC. Each of these will be themed around a specific area of event organisation, such as fundraising or PR and marketing. It is highly recommended that you attend as many of these as possible if you are planning an event in order to maintain a high level of quality for your event and the whole festival.
We will be announcing a number of funding opportunities in the coming months, including Grassroots Funding which will open for submissions on 16 June and close on 14 July as well as an artist residency programme with Blast Theory that will open for submissions on 22 May and close on 3 July.
