With the generational boom of millenials having kids, and often staying in cities while they have them, it’s no wonder that day care is hot. It’s a lot lower regulatory barrier than pre-school, allowing a lot more innovation. This space has been pretty neglected by startups until recently when Wonderschool, Weecare, Brightwheel and several others started to focus on building networks of daycare providers.

I wonder though if the fundamental problem to be fixed here is the unit economics of what it means for a teacher to run a day care. Right now, they are terrible. I’m interested in companies trying to change that, and in the process raise the standards for teaching and learning.

If you are building one or excited to build one, send me an email -john@danners.org. I would love to help!
