Genetic modification in all fields is a bit of a double-edged sword. We have advantages: Healthier crops and babies, longer lives, reduced diseases, and we have disadvantages: Unpredictable growth, health complications, and uninformed citizens. It is important to balance out the pros and cons, but we should really look at these issues in the long term. As the years go by, we will learn more about the genetic makeup of organisms and their DNA. As this knowledge comes to us, we will be able to make more informed decisions for the greater good of mankind. We will find our way around the disadvantages, and over time, we’ll know enough to start putting all of this research to use. What is important is that we don’t rush into anything. While it’s a slippery slope, genetic modification for the well-being and prosperity of human babies is inevitable, and instead of combatting it, we should adapt to it and prepare to regulate it. Anticipation is very valuable when handling a potentially dangerous technology, and before applying said technology, we need to set rules and regulations that will help guide it into place.
