U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R-8th dist.) voted on March 25 in favor of a Republican-crafted budget resolution.
“For years, hardworking Americans who are forced to balance their checkbooks have watched Washington fail to even try and maintain its own. With the Senate under new leadership, I am confident that both chambers will finally resume their constitutional duty of debating and passing a budget that helps create better jobs and more opportunities,” he said.
The resolution, which called for a balanced budget in a decade, passed by a vote of 228–199.
After passage of a Senate budget resolution, a House-Senate conference committee will convene early this month to draft a compromise.
The deadline to pass a final resolution is April 15, but there are no penalties for failing to meet that deadline.
Budget resolutions are non-binding. They set 10-year spending and revenue plans and make deficit estimates.
Fitzpatrick is serving his fourth term in the House. The 8th Congressional District includes all of Bucks County and a portion of Montgomery County.
