What is good? is it when you do everything right? when you don’t lie, when you get good grades, when you listen someone else giving an opinion? What if you lie to help someone in trouble and lying is the best option? what if you failed an exam but something heartbreaking happened early that day? What if your parents opinions are so different from yours and your happiness and you want to follow your heart? Are you still good? or now you’re on the evil side of life? There’s so many questions about this particular topic and that is what makes it interesting and good Hollywood and cartoons main idea.

For example the first types of movies that came to mind while reading Paradise lost was superheros movies. These kind of movies are mainly good people fighting the bad guys just as Satan fought God in the story. There is this pleasure that we get when watching these movies. We all know that most of the times the “good” guys will win against the “evil” but we continue to watch them and get excited to see the same result.

As young age we are exposed to good vs evil. Cartoons are another example of this topic. They want to teach us that not everyone is good in the world. In my perspective we learn that there is consequences if you do something that you’re not supposed to or that is labeled as “bad”.

The little mermaid is an example that at the end of the day good people get what they deserve. Ariel fell in love with a human and despite of her father she decided and give her beautiful voice to Ursula. Ursula got what she wanted in a evil way. Eric, the prince did not recognized her without her voice and almost got married with Ursula but then something happened and her voice came back to her on the wedding day. That’s when Eric recognized her and Ursula fought with his dad and died. Ariel got married to Eric and her dad accepted her heart decisions. And that’s where my question comes in. Are we bad for lying and doing what we think is best for us and for our hearts? or are we only evil if we do negative actions with negative thoughts? But just as Paradise Lost, good people get happy endings.

Sometimes good people don’t have a happy ending. Sometimes good people get hurt. At this scene of Grey’s Anatomy, Meredith noticed that the guy in the hospital bed dying is her dearest friend George. His character in the show was always humble and he had one of the kindest heart but he got ran over trying to protect someone else to not get hit. “Why him/her God?” is a question we the people ask a lot when good people don’t get a positive result. Do we have to blame God or do we have to blame Satan? In the book Paradise Lost, Satan is the one that made Eve eat the apple and that came with consequences that caused pain to humans.

“The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven..”
John Milton, Paradise Lost

I believe we grow up with this idea of good vs evil and we are so used to fight with our own-selves to choose the right decision. Science say that we are classified as animals, the only difference is that we are at the top of the food chain. But what if we were born to do evil for our own survival? We always blame someone else for our outcome in life. And if there is no one physical to blame then we blame God. As the quote say, the mind is powerful so powerful that we can create our own hell or heaven. Maybe is not what we were thought to be bad or good but what we actually believe within ourselves.
