Dream of the Rood

Dream of The Rood is about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ told from the rood’s point of view. It tells about the rood’s fear and anguish as he was cut down and taken away by the soldiers. The rood described the violence that was happening in the moment. It was only when the rood saw Jesus that he knew this is what God wanted him to do and he didn’t want to disobey God.

The rood started as a tree before rising a mighty king and was now worshiped by men and women alike and is still worshiped to this day. The poem has many messages, not just about Christianity, but also about hope, fear, and becoming something greater than anyone ever thought possible. The rood was the dreamer and while it was probably not the way the rood wanted to become great, but it was the way God wanted it.

The rood is no longer just a tree, but a sign of hope and a sign that Jesus died on the cross for everyone’s sins. The proof is the blood stains on the cross as well as the piercings from the nails where Jesus was pinned. God had a plan for the rood and the rood was reluctant, but then accepted the fate that was bestowed upon him.

If there is anything to be taken from this poem it’s the messages that mentioned through it. Sometimes the dreams you have, is not the dream that God wants you to take and he changes the course to fit the plan he has for you. Your dreams start out small, but there could be a bigger purpose behind that dream waiting for you to discover it so you can achieve something bigger that you never thought possible. Sometimes to achieve your dreams you have to turn to God or higher power to help achieve the dreams you want to wish. One final message I got from this poem is that no dream is too small, just be prepared for your dreams to turn into something bigger.

Fear and anguish is okay, but don’t let it discourage you from what you are intended to do. The course of your life can change for the better so that you can achieve greater goals that you never thought possible. We are all roods in our own way trying to find our meaning and purpose in life. Whatever that is don’t stop dreaming because one day we all will stop being grounded and we all will achieve something that gives us meaning in this thing called life.
