Evil exists in order to progress society by fostering necessary change for a better world.

The word “evil” is very subjective. Each person will categorize what’s “good” and what’s “evil” based on their personal values, morals, and experiences. So, what may be evil to one might be good to another. Evil exists because of the differences on what constitutes each individual.

Although the word “evil” has a negative connotation to it, the existence of evil creates a positive impact on society. Humans inherently want to understand and seek change for injustices. The presence of evil allows society to experience these injustices and promote change for the better. There have been many examples of “evil” in history. Hitler, slavery, and 9/11 are all historical examples of how evil helped society change for the better. If these historical events did occur, slavery and extreme antisemitism would still exist. Additionally, 9/11 was one of the most detrimental events that happened on American soil in the 21st century. Terrorism was always heard of and considered evil, but 9/11 was the sole terroristic event where it greatly impacted the United States. This evil had prompted more secure airport protocols and a more thorough process for immigration and visits.

Currently, the United States is undergoing difficulties with racial injustices. There are many stances over this issue which is causing a strong divide within the American society. Whatever the result is, I believe that this very controversial topic has already raised awareness over modern day racial injustices and has prompted hard, but necessary conversations.

Evil causes disorder and hardships within society, but its existence has a strong purpose. It stems from people’s values and beliefs and how they view the world. Without differences, a utopia may exist which could be evil in its own sense. Its presence is necessary to progress society and continue to improve the world through societal changes. Already, there is an increased acceptance of religion, gender identity, and race. Although there are current (and continued) issues over race, I believe it is a lot better than what it used to be 200 years ago. In essence, evil exists so that good can come.
