#le2018 Cheat Sheet
Covering local elections for Britain Elects for the past four years has been… a lovely and hectic experience.
A ward declares! Figures are out! Result in spreadsheet! Changes calculated! Result published! Good! This will be a great nigh— oh christ fifty wards just declared at once how will I do this where’s the data I’m already behind f**k f**k f**k @
Keeping on top of things is difficult, but not having the historic data to make the comparisons to deduce the swings and all that is just plain silly. I thought it would be worth your while to have the previous local election results for the seats up handily available in an easy-to-understand spreadsheet format so as to understand how English politics was in 2014 and how different it’s likely to be to today.
Make your hot takes with care.
Note
The ‘seats up’ columns do not account for defections or by-elections, but rather the result of the wards when they were last up for election (most of which being 2014, but in some instances 2016).
This spreadsheet also includes council by-elections, hence, for example, Cheshire West only having one seat up.
