Shane Richie, playing Alfie Moon, returns to BBC One’s EastEnders this autumn
Anyone familiar with Shane Richie’s character, Alfie Moon, will know the first time we saw him hovering around Albert Square was almost twenty years ago. Alfie, a man with a massive heart, is cheeky and charmingly personable. It didn’t take long for EastEnders fans to warm to the character.
Digging into what we know, something that reflects the feel of the soap opera, life for Alfie hasn’t been smooth sailing. Alfie’s best laid plans and dodgy schemes, mirroring another character Richie played in the Minder reboot, frequently backfire. The backfires land Alfie in a number of a precarious situations over the years.
“Shane Richie created one of the most iconic, loveable and most memorable characters in soap, and to welcome him back to Walford is an absolute pleasure,” Chris Clenshaw, Executive Producer, said. “A lot’s happened since Alfie’s been away from the Square but wherever his floral shirts go you can expect fun, frolics and, of course, the odd porky-pie. We’re over the moon to have him home.”
