Tony Warren’s Coronation Street, having premiered on the UK’s ITV on Friday, 9 December 1960, will see its sixtieth anniversary arrive later this year. ITV, because of how significant the soap opera is, has plans to celebrate the coming anniversary.

Fans of the long-running soap, turning 60 on Wednesday, 9 December 2020, will see the milestone marked by a week of dramatic programming. Further, complementing the special episodes, an anniversary book is being published. The book will contain never-before-seen content.

Gripping storylines, especially Yasmeen Metcalfe’s trial, will see a satisfying conclusion. Yasmeen, after facing significant abuse, had attempted to murder husband Geoff Metcalfe.

Elsewhere, concluding around the same time, Weatherfield residents’ will continue their campaign to stop Ray Crosby from bulldozing the properties along the cobbles.

Can you imagine an actor playing the same character for 60 years? William Roache, well known for playing Kenneth “Ken” Barlow, doesn’t have to imagine it because the actor as been a cornerstone of the long running British soap opera since day one.
