The Responder, starring Martin Freeman as the titular Chris Carson, came to British television screens on 24 January 2022. The five-part series, written and created by Tony Schumacher, revolves around a Merseyside Police officer who has been demoted from his position as an inspector and undertakes a series of night shifts in central Liverpool.
Carson is partnered with Rachel Hargreaves. Hargreaves, an inexperienced and still idealistic officer, wants to play by the rules. Carl Sweeney, a mid-level drug dealer, sees his cocaine stash purloined by Casey. Casey, a local baghead, is well-known by the police. Carson tries helping Casey. Curiously, in doing so, Carson soon crosses paths with Carl.
