I was asked by my cousin to be her wedding photographer. After doing her engagements, she was so impressed by how the photos turned out, she said she couldn’t have anyone else do them but me. I was very excited and flattered, and immediately agreed…not knowing exactly what I was getting myself into.

I had never done such a long photoshoot, or directed that many people when taking pictures, and I had also never done a live event. Usually just portraits. But I did a little research and created a pinterest board of different photography ideas I liked, and I thought the couple would like. So I was mildly prepared when the day actually came. The rest of it was learned on the spot and improvised.

Dealing with difficult lighting, hoards of people who all want to be the one in charge (I can say that because it’s my own family, and well, it’s true.) and the overall drawbacks to being a newbie, lead to a huge learning experience. But also, some very beautiful photos.

I am very happy and proud of how the photos turned out, and hope that the newly wed bride and groom will be able to cherish them for the rest of their lives. Congratulations to Nick and Jessica Reid!

Here’s to this wedding, and many more to come!
