A Response Poem

Let’s yell and holler and fill the well
with our screams until they let us out
to see the light of day, until they free us
from the cold stone sides of silence and
give us pens and paper and microphones,
until our voices echo among the stars
with mothers and daughters side-by-side,
a chorus of voices unleashed and lives unshackled
and history rewritten to include half
the population once left in shadows…
