Oh yeah. But I think they know what they’re doing. I think many of them get that it takes a lot of coordination and exploitation to make their jobs feel so glamorous and so divorced from ugliness.

Silicon Valley culture is just a less extreme version of that. The exploited people are the various service employees that they underpay. The people who scan facebook to remove snuff films. The lower-level customer service folks. The uber drives who might not make rent because Uber decided to underpay them in order to lower prices. Etc. All of these things are conscious decisions that make other people’s lives less glamorous while making their lives more glamorous!
