To everyone saying “Check your privilege and vote for Clinton”

I have met a number of “Never Hillary” people. They are very different from each other and give very different reasons (all of which I disagree with).

But there’s one thing they all say: “I’m sick of privileged white people telling me to check my privilege.”

To be very broad, it’s three types of people.

1) People of all races who are active in politics and are also mostly doing fine. But they have heard the argument a thousand times and it just doesn’t work on them.

2) White people who are not doing fine, who write off the argument because their white privilege doesn’t get them out of poverty, or do much of anything else useful. They get that their whiteness makes them not get racially profiled, but their lives still suck and they blame privileged white people like Clinton.

3) People of color who say they can’t stomach voting for someone who has hurt so many people like them. The argument doesn’t work on them not only because they don’t have the white privilege you speak of, but because they see Clinton as a candidate for white people who talk about white privilege, and they hate that.

So, if you want to brainstorm ways to convince people with the potential to swing the election to vote for Clinton, let me know.

But *please* stop making an argument that, at best, does nothing and, at worst, reinforces their belief that they should never vote for Hillary.
