Gotta Start Somewhere
“Photography is the story I fail to put into words,” — Destin Sparks
Combining images with words is a very powerful thing, any journalist would agree, I think. I hope to design my blog as a place to explore this power.
I’ve always been fascinated by a good photo in that it has the power to tell so many stories. “Who took that photo? What were they thinking? What was going on prior to or after the photo? What are the stories of the people/objects in the photo?” Yeah you could cheat and read the caption but that’s no fun, where’s your sense of imagination?
This is where my blog comes in to play. Essentially, with technology today, we are all photographers in a way. Wanna take a picture of that pretty fall scene, holding your Starbucks coffee because OMG PSL is back? Just pull out your iPhone, snap a quick pic, mess with the filters and there you have it, a picture anyone could mistake for professional (sort of?).
Let me pause for a second to introduce my self. I am currently a junior at Seton Hill University, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in communication with a minor in journalism… Okay this starting to sound like a resume, I’ve been writing too many of those lately.
Some of my interests include reading, writing, sleeping, drinking plenty of coffee when I am not asleep, and taking an insane amount of pictures of my cat. I’m still figuring out what I want to do with my life, so for now I’m just enjoying the ride and I intend to capture every moment. I am in no way a professional photographer and have no intentions of becoming one. I’m just a girl with an iPhone holding a cup of Starbucks who really likes fall and leaves because it’s pretty okay?
So if you enjoy photography, I promise it will be more than just leaves, or you want to explore photography yourself, please stay tuned. And remember this is just the beginning for me so I have no idea how this is going to turn out, but feel free to join me and we can find out together. Now please enjoy this lovely fall photo I took (no I did not stop the car just to take the picture… okay, maybe I did).
