BRONZE Manifesto 2011

• The Future is here….. and there….

• Bronze is a new format or medium* for recorded music…..

• In Bronze, the recorded material is transformed or transfigured** to produce a unique version on each listenening.

• The Bronze format provides a state for a song to live within as a live performance or a fixed recording does… Maybe closer to the former but probably somewhere in between.

• Bronze is not intended to replace recorded performances. It was born out of a desire for a process where the composition and production of piece of music no longer requires the final work to exist in static form…

• It was born out of the desire for the final piece not to have to exist in a fixed state.

• It seeks not to replace fixed recorded music as fixed recorded music did not seek to replace live music… It may function as an alternative. Creating possibilities in a similar way that fixed recorded music, through advancement in recording techniques, created possibilities not before present in live music.

• The Bronze format can liberate a song from some of the decision making processes that once were, but no longer are, imposed upon it by technical limitations… Hoping to leave the important and vital decisions in the artist’s hands…

• Will it hinder the personal evolution of a song? This will be in the hands of each individual artist/author. In the way we intend to use it: hopefully not… It can readily be used to create radically different combinations and arrangements on each listen but our intention is to keep the vital organs of each song intact albeit in an everchanging (possibly everlasting!) setting.

• Whilst the vital organs of a song should remain familiar.. The variety in detail seeks to break the stasis and pull the listener’s ear away from a compartmentalising system hoping to provide a subtly affecting experienced.

• If it works in the way we intend a lot of the variation will not be “noticed” conciously but felt subconciously.

• Is it experimental or a technological advance? It doesn’t feel experimental to me to use technology that is readily available to let this music exist in the most fitting and exciting way… in fact it starts to seem quite obvious and almost essential… It may be an advance in the embracing of such technology outside of the “experimental” music world, but this remains to be seen….

* A person through whom others seek to communicate with the spirits of the dead or a channel or means of large-scale communications….

** To transform outwardly esp to make more beautiful
