Hurricane Dorian plowed into the Bahamas in early September as a Category 5 storm, and parked there for days.

By the time it left the country, entire islands were virtually leveled, dozens of people were dead, and hundreds were missing. The damage estimates top $7 billion.

Among those impacted was the family of Jaron Cornish, the former standout for the Stony Brook men’s basketball team. They are from the Abaco Islands, which took the brunt of Dorian’s devastation. Jaron’s family lost their house and most of their belongings in the storm, and are now in need of help to rebuild their lives.

Stony Brook Athletics has launched a fundraiser benefitting Jaron’s family, and now, with your help, Brookland is following suit.

On October 27, the founder of Brookland — that’s me, Adam! — will be running the Marine Corp. Marathon in Washington, DC. This year, we’ll be raising money for Island Federal Credit Union’s Jaron Cornish and Family Support Fund. You can support Jaron and his family by “sponsoring” one of the 26.2 miles that Brookland will be running, for $10 per mile. Our hope is to raise at least at least $262, with 100% of contributions going to the Jaron Cornish and Family Support Fund.

If you wish to contribute, you can do so via PayPal here. If you’d prefer to use Venmo, you can do so @DCAdam on the app. If you’d rather contribute directly to Island Federal’s fund, details can be found here.

We’ll tweet regular fundraising updates using the hashtag #Jaronathon, so be sure to give Brookland (and Adam) a follow on Twitter!
