Office Hours
A retrospective on CCV Hours
As part of its mission to support research computing, CCV has been offering weekly drop-in office hours for the last three years. At office hours one or more members of CCV’s staff will be available to answer questions and help with any high performance computing or research computing issues. Please come along, we welcome all problems big or small. We advertise office hours over the CCV announcement mailing list and also on the CCV events calendar.
Approximately 1000 members of the Brown community currently use Oscar to conduct research. In 2019, 133 individuals (15% of active users) attended office hours. We have had a total of 494 visitors to office hours since June 2017.
At Brown we are really lucky to have a wide variety of people making use of research computing. Visits by research domain are shown below. Note Brown’s open curriculum can make categorizing researchers difficult, so we’ve included how we categorized the departments.
For the last couple of months, office hours have been completely remote through Zoom. We realize many researchers are now considering computational projects because of limited access to labs. If you are in this situation, and just getting started with HPC or using a cluster feel free to drop by office hours or attend one of our workshops. We have witnessed many people go from absolute beginner to power user. The CCV resources are here for you to use.
