Best “Break from the Holiday Madness”

Brunch Options

Whether you’re headed to Union Square to brave the crowds and do some Christmas shopping, getting in the holiday spirit and going to check out the giant Christmas tree in all its glory, or attempting to try your hand (or feet, technically) at the ice skating rink…chances are you’re going to need a break from the madness. Here are some brunch suggestions in the surrounding area where you can duck out to rest your feet and re-fuel.

“We are a destination where good things gather: locally-sourced seasonal ingredients, west coast freshness and time-honored southern recipes from the Creoles to the Carolinas.” farmerbrown offers a $25 all-you-can-eat buffet for weekend brunch with options such as chicken & waffles, cornmeal catfish, grits, and pecan brownies (a la carte options also available). From the savory to the sweet, there’s soul in every bite.

Saturday 10a-230p & Sunday 930a-230p

Dottie’s True Blue Cafe
28 6th St, San Francisco, CA 94103
dotties.biz

Dottie’s has been a staple of the San Francisco breakfast/brunch scene for 2 decades. The restaurant has featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, consistently makes it onto top brunch spot lists, and has had a large following the whole time (luckily they’ve expanded to a larger location in recent years). While best known for their chilli-cheddar cornbread with jalapeno jelly, their brunch menu is extensive and full of delicious options from egg scrambles to black-bean cakes to fresh bakery items.

Saturday, Sunday 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM

The Big 4
1075 California St, San Francisco, CA 94108
www.big4restaurant.com/

Located off the lobby of The Scarlet Huntington hotel, the restaurant is classically elegant and romantic in style. Chef Kevin Scott’s menu is not exhaustive, but it includes quintessential offerings such as the Croque Monsieur and brioche french toast, plus heartier options like short rib egg in the hole with polenta. Daytime drink staples such as the negroni and bloody mary are also on the menu.

Sunday brunch service from 10:30am-2:30pm
