BSchool is proud to announce that our credentialing of skills is now secured within the blockchain! This is one of the first of it’s kind and we’re very, very excited.

Though it is an area with a bit of grey area, so understandably some may say, “what’s the big deal?”

And then the even bigger question — “what the hell is this blockchain stuff anyway?”

You’d by now have heard all about the furore for bitcoin, cryptocurrency and the blockchain.

Everyone’s talking about it, but there’s not a lot of clear consensus of what it all is — especially the underlying enormous technological feat and implications it holds.

We’ll quickly give an overview of blockchain, and what it means for education.

So What is Blockchain Technology?

“The blockchain is an incorruptible digital ledger of economic transactions that can be programmed to record not just financial transactions but virtually everything of value.” — Don & Alex Tapscott, authors of Blockchain Revolution (2016)

In more simple words, it’s a big database that can permanently record anything automatically. This ‘transaction’ is unalterable and essentially set in stone, so this sort of technology removes the need for third parties to ‘verify’ that it actually happened.

Instead of a person handling it, automated and unbiased computer code does.

For example, bitcoin uses blockchain tech to remove the need for banks to facilitate and verify when you send money from one person to another. The system does it automatically for you.

While a simplistic explanation, that is the technology in a nutshell.

But, don’t worry about the intricate specifics of how it works. Just like with cars or the internet, you don’t need to understand HOW it works entirely to realise its full benefit.

For a full explainer on blockchain technology, you can read this helpful, in-depth guide over on BlockGeeks.

BSchool & The Blockchain

BSchool is one of the very first in Australia to securely issue digital credentials within the Blockchain.

Once you complete one of our online courses, a permanent record of your credentials is cryptographically sealed into the blockchain.

So what does this mean exactly?

Third parties viewing those credentials can be absolutely certain a record has not been altered, providing an ironclad defence against fraud.

This essentially means that people can trust that you’ve completed a BSchool course. What’s in the blockchain is final and permanent.

It’s incredibly exciting, as it brings new integrity and transparency to education. We think this is the future of education.

And to celebrate, we are offering all past graduates the opportunity for us to give you the new BSchool digital credentials in the Blockchain for our Entrepreneurship and Leadership courses.

You can then experience what it is like to have a credential in the blockchain and how it can be used.

If you are a BSchool graduate and would like it recognised in the Blockchain, please let us know at hello@bschool.edu.au and we will issue you one at no charge.

If you’re interested in our courses, head to our website to check out our offerings here.
