6th Edition BTNG — Recap & Pictures
Last Thursday was the 6th edition of BTNG. And boy, did we have fun! Not only did we have an amazing stable of speakers but quite a few people came through the doors. And with a lot of familiar faces in the room, it felt like a reunion of some sorts; the type where you catch-up with your old friends and swapped war stories.
Speaking of speakers we had 3; First up was Ozo who broke down why we should build for Nigeria. It was a masterpiece in data and stats to paint a compelling picture on why the smart thing to do is target the Nigerian Market. You can see Ozo’s slides here.
“There is always going to be opportunity for people who know what they’re doing, to do great things”— Ozo
Next up was Valerie the founder of Ebony Street Market . As a published author, it’s not surprising that Valerie is a natural storyteller and she held nothing back while taking us on a journey about the tribulations and joy of bringing her startup to life.
“To start, the first step is all you need to take” — Valerie
And finally, Sani the founder of Haibrid was the last speaker of the night. He spoke on having an head first approach to Nigeria. This was a compilation of practical tactics and tips gained from his recent trip which was meticulously planned. Sani also revealed his new ‘secret’ startup. You can see Sani’s slides here.
“Don’t go back to Nigeria with a ‘Saviour Mindset”— Sani
The speakers sessions were all very interactive, which means the members of the community had ample opportunity to ask questions, share opinions and exchange ideas with the speakers.
As usual, one of the highlights of our events is the ‘lightning talk’ segment which is an open affair for anyone, to give an unscripted 5 min talk on anything. We had an eclectic collection of talks from folks like Damilare of Suvenia, Ayeni the great of BHM, Freddie of DailyKobo, Adekunle discussing a meet-up of Africans in AI, etc. Lightning talks are perfect for; getting feedback or soliciting help on a project, looking for co-founders or collaborators, or simply just a way to tell the community what you’re working on.
Game over…and all roads led to the pub for drinks. And to trade more stories with friends.
