In this case instead of standing for behind the scenes, BTS actually stands for Bangtan Sonyeondan or “방 탄 소 년 단,” in Hangul, the South Korean writing system. 방 탄 소 년 단 means bulletproof boyscouts in Korean, and that’s exactly what BTS does for people. They make you feel invincible.

BTS is a South Korean band made up of 7 members, 3 rappers and 4 vocalists. They were formed in 2012 but didn’t debut until June of 2013, a common occurrence for K-Pop groups to ensure that they are as experienced as possible before debuting for the public. They are signed to the company “Big Hit Entertainment,” and signed a contract in October of this year to renew their contract for 7 more years. BTS was at a disadvantage from the start as Big Hit was a small and inexperienced company that had little to no money. Despite this BTS was able to rise to international stardom in just 5 years.

BTS didn’t become truly worldwide superstars until the release of their 8th album entitled Wings. Their music video for the song “Blood Sweat and Tears” off of the album garnered 6.3 million views in 24 hours as well as set the record for fastest K-Pop music video to garner 10 million views at the time. After the release of the album BTS began to garner fans from all over the world instead of just in Korea.
