Whether you’re a startup, a freelancer, or rising entrepreneur, you need a professionally designed website to successfully market your business. But, what if you’re completely clueless about web design and development? The bad news is that takes more than a few days to become a coding ninja (that’s why it pays so darn well). But the good news is there are lots of website builders on the market that can help you out.

These five website builders are extremely user friendly and cost effective for the new business owner.

1. Squarespace

This is a really stylish solution for anyone who wants to build anything from a simple business website to a comprehensive ecommerce store. Personally, I love Squarespace. I actually used it to build my own site and it’s really easy to use. The website provides an all inclusive service that includes hosting and there are a number of beautiful design templates to choose from.

Squarespace also provides the option for users to upload their own design (but, honestly, the templates provided are already pretty impressive). All of the website features are built-in, so you don’t have to worry about figuring out any external apps either.

Pricing starts at $18 per month for the most popular business package and the only real downside is that there’s no Paypal payment option so you have to pay by credit card. However, you can set your card up for automatic monthly payments or pay for the year in advance and receive a discount.

2. Voog

Voog is a relatively unknown Berlin-based, multilingual website builder. Whilst it isn’t the most visually pleasing website builder on the market, it does have a pretty good price point to make up for it. Voog takes a ‘bare bones’ approach to its UI which makes the site very easy to use. And if you’re an artist or designer, you’ll love the minimal aesthetic of the design templates available. The font choice is also extremely tasteful and you can’t really go wrong regardless of which option you select.

Although this is quite a basic website builder, this is exactly what makes it the perfect option for the novice user. Prices start at €8 Euro per month (around $9) with a discount available for annual advance payment.

3. Format

Format is actually marketed as a portfolio builder and it’s a great choice for creatives who want to present their work online. Format’s interface is designed to take the user on a step-by-step journey until they’ve completed their website. This makes it simple to create a professional portfolio that will display your work in the best possible light and help you to stand out from your competitors. There are some great extras available too — such as an in-built blog and multiple customization options.

The basic package is only $5.75 a month, but for an extra fiver you can upgrade to the pro package which includes 1000 images, 1000 pages, and unlimited pages.

4. Wix

Wix is one of the more well-known website builders on the market and it offers a wide range of features and design options to the user. With Wix, anything is possible and almost everything is editable. Using the drag-and-drop system, you can build your website to meet your exact specifications — and there are 100s of apps to choose from too. If you already know exactly what you want your website to look like, Wix has the extensive functionality to allow you to replicate that vision.

The unlimited package is most popular with entrepreneurs and freelancers, and the price tag is $12.42 per month. But you can always start off with the free basic package to see what you think.

5. WebsiteBuilder.com

Websitebuilder.com offers a free custom domain on its premium account option, which is a pretty big deal. Have you ever looked at a site address like ‘sitename.websitebuilder.com’ and thought it looked professional? Unlikely. There are also 10,000 design template options, from online portfolios to ecommerce stores, so you’re bound to find the right fit for your business. There’s even a ‘blank template’ option if you want to get creative.

Oh, and if you don’t have any images at hand — don’t worry — there’s a whole library of high quality images for you to choose from. If you do have your own images, there’s an awesome image editor available to make sure that they look great on your site. And if you want to push out some content, there’s also a blog option which is pretty easy to use and includes standard widgets such as featured posts and tag cloud.

Although Websitebuilder.com doesn’t have the same in-built analytics as Squarespace, it does integrate with Google Analytics — which might actually be preferable for a lot of people. Pricing starts at $5.99 per month for the premium package.
