Once you’ve started using Buckets, it’ll fast become a staple of your everyday life. Whether you’re organizing a work project, a dinner party, or the housework! But what happens when you’ve set up a Project that needs external input from family, friends, or colleagues?

If they’re already on Buckets, then it’s pretty simple. But if they’re not, it only takes a few seconds to get them on board. In this post, I’m going to run through the process of adding your newbie friends and colleagues to your Buckets Project in the most streamlined and efficient way possible.

The “Convince Them” Part

No-one likes extra work added to their day, even if it’s going to save them time in the long run. Besides, if you’re talking to someone who’s never heard about Buckets, they won’t have a whole lot of motivation to sign up just for you. Luckily, the Buckets blog is full of posts that will show your friends/colleagues just how helpful Buckets is and help them to understand why you want to collaborate on our platform.

For example, our recent post on how to collaborate without disrupting your workflow looks at the various ways of collaborating in Buckets and gives an overview of how our new privacy permissions work when adding people to Projects. And don’t forget to remind them of how much time they’ll save on meetings and lengthy discussions that can easily be managed in Buckets from anywhere at any time.

The “Sign Up” Part

Once you’ve convinced your friends and/or colleagues to get on board, the next step is the signup process. We’ve made signing up to Buckets super simple and you’ll find various social signup options available. When a user has successfully signed up, they’re guided through an essential step-by-step guide to using Buckets so that they can hit the ground running! We also created a post “I Signed Up, Now What?” that new users find helpful and our support section is packed with info, tips, and tricks is an excellent resource for Buckets newbies.

Adding Members To A Project

Adding others Buckets users to a Project is a straightforward process. Once you know who you want to add to the Project, follow these steps to give them access:

  • Once you’ve created your first Project, you’ll probably want to add some colleagues and/or friends.
  • Go to Project Options on the right-hand side of your screen and select ‘members’ from the drop-down menu.
  • Click Invite New Member and a modal will appear where you can search for existing Buckets users to choose from.
  • Search for the member(s) you want to invite by using their name, username, or email address.
  • Once you have located all the users, you want to invite to the Project, submit your request, and a pending invite will be sent for approval from each member.

At present, anyone who gains access to your Project has access to all of the content held within that Project. However, we will be unveiling new features in the coming months that will give you specific access control for the different Cards contained within the Project. So watch this space!

Adding Members To A Card

If you want to add a user to a Card, they must be a member of that Project first (see above). Once you’ve added a user to your Project, the easiest way to add them to a Card is via tagging their username. Once someone is tagged, they’ll get a notification and will continue to receive these notifications each time there’s new activity in the Card.

To add a member:

  • Click on the + icon beside your avatar in the Card
  • Enter the user’s information into the field to begin the search.
  • Once you find the connection you are looking for, click on their name and confirm that you want to add them to the Card. You can repeat this for as many users as you like.

Alternatively, you can mention them in the Card comments. Just type in their username and a + sign appear to add them to the Card.

The Collaboration Part

Once your chosen users have signed up, it’s important to get them familiar with Buckets ASAP so that you can start collaborating together on Projects. Everyone involved in your Project needs to be on board or it just won’t work.

Our post How To Use Buckets Correctly Once Your Team Is On Board contains a comprehensive walk-through for ensuring that everyone has a smooth transition to Buckets.
