Last year, we wrote about the ongoing debate here in Buckets around Markdown vs WYSIWYG, and the year before that we outlined the benefits of using Markdown to format your content. So, as you can see, we’ve had Markdown on the brain for a while now!

Which brings me to a recent update to the Buckets UI: Slash (/) Markdown. If you’re a regular Slack user, you’ll be very familiar with the concept. But just in case you’re not, here’s how it works.

Using /Markdown makes using Buckets even more efficient as our key features are literally a “/” command away. /Markdown works by typing in a forward slash along with the command you’re looking for. You’ll also see a suggested list of available commands are you start typing. After you’ve typed in the command, just press enter and that’s it!

The Starting Point

The commands that are immediately available on the command list include Labels, Attachments, and Reminders. Using the Label command allows you to select a Label with a number of color options to group/prioritize your tasks and get an instant visual of your workload. With the Attachment command you can select one attachment to create an attachment chip to a Checklist item, and /reminder opens a calendar where you can create a Reminder for any upcoming deadlines that we will then alert you to.

These commands can be used in different areas within Buckets, however not all features are available everywhere so don’t forget to check our support article for a list of available functions.

Our Goal Going Forward

We’re still only at the beginning stages of introducing this function but we’re super excited about how it’s going to develop in the long-term. In time, we will have a universal language of Buckets commands so that whenever a new feature has been added, it will be added to the command list to make it instantly accessible.

As always, our goal at Buckets is to make task management as efficient and productive for you as possible. Introducing /Markdown is another step in that direction and we’re super excited to see what you think!
