Our new permission controls will make Buckets even more accessible to everyone and we are SUPER EXCITED to share them with you.

Previously, Buckets Projects were only accessible by other Buckets users, i.e. you could invite someone to join Buckets to work on your Project but that was the only means available to gain access. In addition, it wasn’t possible to restrict Project access to current users other than adding them Project members or not adding them at all. Now, it’s a whole different ball game.

With our new update, it’s now possible to:

  • share your Projects with non-Buckets users
  • share your Projects with Buckets users who you wish to have limited access

Whether you want to make a Project completely private, semi-private, or allow full open access — the choice is now completely up to you. This is similar to what’s offered in Google Docs, which is one of our favorite ways to work together on articles, etc., so you’ll definitely see a resemblance in terms of access capabilities.

How It Works

We’ve been working hard on making this happen so let’s look at how you can avail of these options to make your Buckets usage even more customized to your needs.

To check out the new permission controls in Buckets, click on the little blue icon right beside “Project Options”.

Once you’ve clicked into your permission controls, you’ll find a number of settings available to help you to better manage your Project from start to finish by enabling easy access for everyone involved, whether they’re already Buckets users or not.

Here’s a run through of each of these settings and how they might apply to your workflow.

Private: Only Project Members can view, comment, edit, and admin

If everyone essential to the Project you’re working on is already a member, then this is the setting for you. It ensures that only those listed as members of the Project can view, comment, or make adjustments within the Project. When you’ve used this setting, no-one will be able to view your Project unless you’ve specifically added them to it, even if they have the URL link.

Public Editor: Anyone can view, comment, and edit

This makes your Project completely open to the public so that anyone can make adjustments via the access URL. This is particularly useful if:

  1. you’re working with various clients who may not be using Buckets as a business tool but still need a way to communicate, give feedback, and work with you on the specific Project you’ve set up.
  2. you’re working with other team members who you need to collaborate with on the Project.

Public Commenter: Anyone can view and comment

Also available to view via the URL, this setting allows you to maintain control over your Project but still share it openly and allow for input via comments.

Public Viewer: Anyone can view

This is a particularly useful setting for presentations and sharing Projects in work or at home that don’t require external input from viewers. Anyone with the URL can view the Project but cannot make any edits or comments.

How Will This Change How You Use Buckets?

We’ve been super excited about launching this new feature and we’d love to know how it impacts your experience using Buckets.
