Many people think of Checklists as simple daily to-do lists or a way to breakdown smaller tasks in a larger Project. But there are endless ways that you can utilize Checklists to become more efficient and productive in your everyday life. In this post, I’m going to run through a few examples to show you just how helpful having a Checklist can be in a diverse range of situations.

Writing A Speech

Got a speech coming up? Whether it’s a wedding speech or a industry event, it’s important to be as prepared as possible. Winging it might work after a few glasses of wine — when you’re not as easily embarrassed and the crowd isn’t really paying attention — but it’s a very risky ( albeit amusing) endeavor and best avoided at all costs!

Preparing a Checklist to help you write and remember your speech will make sure you avoid the dreaded memory blank when you’re just 10 seconds in.

Getting Ready For A Business Pitch

Every entrepreneur needs a solid business pitch, but just how solid is yours? How you deliver this pitch will determine how much confidence you instil in your audience so it’s pretty important that you get it right. Whilst a lot of work and revision will go into your business pitch (you’ll probably “fine tune” it relentlessly, everyone does!), having a strong Checklist to follow and fall back on will ensure you never veer too far off your end goal.

Don’t forget that you can also add all necessary files and documents into your Buckets Card so that everything is kept in the one place.

Preparing A Presentation

Whether you’re a natural born presenter or feel like a deer in the headlights in front of an audience, preparation is everything! Creating a Buckets Project is the first step in collaborating with your colleagues and gathering files to prepare the perfect presentation.

The Buckets Cards within your Project will contain Checklists that cover every aspect of the presentation from preparation to D-day, so you can rest assured that absolutely everything you need will be available right at your fingertips.

Templates For Managing Your Business

Buckets Checklists can be used in so many types of professions that it’d take an infinite amount of time to go through them. Whatever your industry, the benefits of having a standardized Checklist to organize regular tasks apply across the board.

For example, if you’re a doctor or dentist, a standardized Checklist is super useful for gathering all of the necessary details for each new patient. Any new paperwork that needs to be added can be attached to the Buckets Card that your Checklist is in. Or in the case of a therapist, creating a Buckets Project to store client notes, and Checklists to stay on track with the admin side of things, is an excellent way to manage an extensive client list in one place.

Atul Gawande was one medical professional who strongly supported the use of checklists in the medical community. In 2009, the well-known MD created and implemented a hospital surgery checklist for doctors and nurses as part of World Health Organization program. The checklist ensured that basic checks were always completed before surgery. Everyone involved could run through the list and confirm that each person was on the same page about the surgery, aware of who was working in the surgical team, and clued in on what their own role was the procedure.

In addition, features like Labels can be used in the above business cases to group patients/clients in categories and Reminders can come in useful when incomplete forms need to be filled in ASAP. Your Buckets Checklists can also be duplicated as often as needed, so the process becomes automated very quickly once you get into a routine.
