The fifth and the last day of ‘Capacity Development for Impact’ started with a wonderful keynote by Abishek Sir on Creativity from Eastern Context. ‘Understand yourself first and your inner strength that will lead you to creativity’ was the key message. The participants were energized with a brief breathing exercise afterwards. Then on usual note, the coaches visited teams at individual levels with their goal setting. At personal level, feedback were provided. All the participants have been setting goals on day wise-basis, they got to learn from coaches the importance of goal setting, the activities to do to achieve them and how they can know they achieved their goals. They could relate it with other events of life and other tasks too.

Coming to this fifth day stage, the teams are at final state of prototyping their solutions. They are ready for the judges who will select the best three out of eight in the later part of the day. All the teams went down to present their presentation in front of Janne and other coaches as validation and last minute check for their presentations. A lot of questions were asked to the teams from various angles so that they are ready to address the loopholes.

On the second stage, they went to Ulla — the head coach, and presentation team to go through the presentation clinic. Here their presentations were refined, again as preparation to present in front of judges. Much refined presentations could be seen on later part of the day.

After lunch at 1:45, all judges arrived and they were briefed about judging criteria. The teams were now ready for the big event — presentation in front of

The first team tried to address how to decrease smoking in young adults — their idea was ‘quit smoking has to come from within’, and data shows 60% wants to quit smoking only 6%. Prototype tested 67% accepted and 33% rejected. They proposed a solution for it.

The second team presented ‘Smart Sticks’ — a stick to lonely old people who you will never walk alone. That provides services like call for help, security, pulse rate etc.

The third team was ‘Catalyst’ solving orphanage rehabilitation — social integration of teenagers (nearly 16,000 orphans at risk) — be the help, everyone loves being loved, don’t donate money, and donate your social capital to these individuals

Then came the fourth ‘Safa Safari’ — non- degradable waste management — keep your environment, safe, clean, provide dustbins collect from homes and center and give it to the industry where they recycle — a good mediating unit.

After 4 captivating presentations, a short 10 minutes break was offered to cool of the steam for a whole.

Then with fresh breath of air, came ‘The Ripples’ working on preventing waste water treatment, 10,000 kids die each year, 80% is about waste water management — bio gas and treated water plant in home — clean water for household purpose or to the river with methane gas to use separately.

Other team was solving issue of stray dogs in Godavari — make the dog ownership experience better for the owners- there is membership and merchandize to support the cost part, a supporting body for dog owners who have problem taking care of their dogs.

Hatemalo group — how to support pregnant couple, 15% of pregnant women go through depression and anxiety, 97% need sought emotional support, and 100% of men need emotional support. — Emotional and physical well-being, peer support, and other support needed.

Team Sathi with — 73% of school going kids are bullied, out of that 7% goes through psychological trauma due to bulling, which happens in our school bullies will be reported, a reporting mechanism as a band with button.

Now based on the judgment criteria, the judges are discussing to finalize the final three. Top three will have to gear to up to present for the evening.

With the teams presenting their solutions for assigned idea, now they are ready for ‘feedback circle’ to share feedback within the groups. Then the participants moved to general feedbacks session, they once again gave feedback of whole five days and the coaches involved. The participants sat on the floor and hear the top three teams — smart stick, safa safari and hatemalo group. This means they have to present this later on to industry guests. The whole process was exhilarating and was executed by Janne and Ulla in fun filled and exciting way. Then the certificates were distributed.

Briefly scattering, the participants, coaches and industry people gathered in the hall for final event of the day. Deputy Mayor, Ward Chairman and other distinguished guests came to the event. The final event started with some reflection on the five days through photos. Then Kimmo briefly introduced BUCSBIN project to guests and others with some facts and figures. Followed by that, the top three teams showcased their projects to the distinguished guests. Finally, Young Innovation CEO, Bibhushan conducted panel discussion selecting one member from each group. Various factors like role of coaches, traditional vs. lab-based learning, new experience etc. were asked. Out of 5, most of students gave 4 or 5 rating to the whole experience. The whole event ended with dinner to all.

This is purely an example of ‘fun while learning’ and ‘the new pedagogy of teaching’ — lab based learning. The feedbacks have indicated towards positive direction for the whole BUCSBIN project.
