4 Reasons Why You Should Have A Gym Buddy, And Use Buddoop To Find One!
Even though I’ve always been conscious of keeping my body active to enhance my health, I am as lazy as a sloth when it comes going to the gym.
I know that if I don’t workout in the morning, I won’t do any workout at the end of the day. My circadian rhythm is sharp. After 6pm I either just want to relax with a book (or watch some TEDtalks) or I have some chilled work on my bed (as I’m doing right now while writing this blog entry).
Because of this, I know that I can only workout in the morning right after waking up. The problem with this you see… is that my bed is so perfect in the morning!! I can even listen “Never Gonna Leave This Bed” by Maroon 5 playing in the background. Can you relate?
So, my workout is quite inconsistent throughout the month. Some weeks I workout 6 days and others just for 3. And they are not even back-to-back!
There was one semester however in which I managed to workout 5 days every single week! Why? I had a great gym buddy!
Both of us were morning people so that was already some points in this new gym-buddies relationship. And neither of us enjoyed cardio… so the perfect match!
From that semester, here are some of the reasons that made believe that having a gym buddy is beneficial:
1. It’s more fun!
There will definitely be some good laughs when you workout with a buddy. Especially on the next two days when both of you are walking like penguins after that Legs, Bumbs and Tumbs workout.
2. You’ll finish that set because competition mode is ON!
You know when you are meant to do 3 sets of 12 and then your last set is something like up to 7? Not anymore my friend! You and your buddy will be secretly competing against each other during workouts. It’s just part of the fun.
3. You are more motivated to commit
If you were thinking a cloud in the sky would stop you think that again. When having a gym buddy, you are likely to balance yourselves. If one of you is having second thoughts about skipping the day the other will remind them why they shouldn’t.
4. You’ll build a stronger friendship (pun intended)
Sharing activities with someone makes you closer. Your gym buddy will not only be your gym buddy! You’ll then start sharing healthy recipes, workout videos, going out to do other stuff and have really nice conversations.
Now let’s talk about Buddoop, what the heck is that?
Throughout my university experience, I found it really hard to make plans with my friends. Even my friends found it hard to make plans with their friends. We were all wishing for an app that would allow us to meet new people to do activities together like let’s say… finding a gym buddy, going for a coffee, climbing, cinema, all of those! That way, even if our friends were busy, we could still do something in our friend time with good company.
My brother was also experiencing this from his side. So one night, he called me and we decided to build Buddoop!
Buddoop is a post-based platform where you would type what you would like to do, select a location, date and time, and a category where your activity falls into. Then, people nearby would be able to see your publication and join to your event. You can then contact each other to agree on a meeting point or even to exchange contacts if you wish. As simple as that!
Here’s an example of a post:
You would be able to find all sort of buddies in our platform!
So now you know!
