Problem With DNS Configuration On Ubuntu Pro on EC2

I’ve written before that out of the box Ubuntu Pro runs a DNS server. What?!

I explained how to remove that here as that is just a security problem waiting to happen. I don’t understand the need for this at all.

The problem is that when you make those changes, it you have to fix some entries in your /etc/hosts file.

And the problem with that is that your /etc/hosts file is looking for an entry that points an entry for your local IP address to local host like this (for example if your local IP address is 10.10.10.0:

127.0.0.1 ip-10–10–10–10

Without that entry, when I try to run this command to update the ubuntu password it fails:
