Hello World!

I’ve been meaning to do this for a long time now, but like most busy mums, things for ourselves always get bumped down to the bottom of the to-do-list! Welcoming in 2020 gave me that shove up the backside to get on with it, so here I am writing my opening post, sharing a little bit about myself and why I am so obsessed with interiors.

Hi, my name’s Emma and for as long as I can remember I’ve always had a passion for interiors.

When I was a child I would build LEGO houses with tiny tables and beds. I would endlessly redecorate my dolls house drawing and painting new wallpaper designs and sewing miniature cushions and sheets from scraps. As a teenager, whereas my friends spent their babysitting money on earrings and perfume I would be buying photo frames and candles!

I studied Interior architecture at University and was lucky enough to work as a 3D designer at an agency for many years, where I honed my skills and worked on projects from inception to completion for many household names. When I was 25 and bought my first home I finally had an opportunity to develop my own style and taste, and very quickly learned that alas, my meager budget did not extend to B&B Italia Charles sofas and Cherner chairs. Tbh most of us cannot go out and buy everything new, nor am I advocating that. Far better to learn to invest in a single quality piece, the best you can afford, and build a story around that. But I’ll be sharing more about creating spaces plus the vital skill of balancing adults needs and wants versus the practicality of being kid friendly, all in good time. Back to my potted history. With the arrival of baby no.2, to get a better work/life balance I decided to leave agency life and start my own business. My favorite treat would be to sneak off for an hour to grab a coffee and wander aimlessly around a local antique or interiors shop. Fast forward another 10 years and I’m just about to embark on a lifelong dream, building my own home eeeeek, with all the learning curve that it involves and the challenges it brings. I still like to sneak off with a companion to wander around an antiques fair, or peruse Daylesford or Neptune to be inspired by the new seasons displays, painfully deliberating over which item I am going to take home with me.

So you can look forward to ten minute tweaks, how to give tired rooms a fresh update, must have buys that catch my eye while I’m out and about. I’ll share principles for making spaces work harder, DIY projects to add personal touches and examples of swoon-worthy spaces for us all to lust over.

I’ll be sharing my 20 years of experience, inspiration and outright love for all things interiors out there for you lovely people to enjoy.

Hopefully it might encourage you to be a bit braver, try something new or just indulge your own passion for beautiful spaces.

See you soon, Emma x
