There is no disputing that Artificial Intelligence will make a mark on the future of work, but what impact do people predict it will have?

At the EmTech Digital Conference produced by MIT Technology Review Insights, EY conducted a survey of conference attendees. The survey asked attendees a series of questions about AI.

The Survey

The first question asked their view on AI’s impact on jobs.

As you can see, the majority of the participants had a positive outlook and stated that they thought AI will create more jobs than it destroys. According to the survey, over 95% of the attendees agreed that AI will have an impact on job creation or job loss(2018, April 30).

The survey’s second question asks attendees how AI is currently being applied in their organization. Roughly 30% of attendees states that their organizations are currently applying AI for business functions. The rest of the attendees stated that their organizations are either not using AI or using in a small role that does not yet affect the organization in a large way yet(2018, April 30).

In Conclusion

The survey goes on to ask attendees other questions about AI, but the key takeaways from the survey are that AI is currently not being used to the best of its abilities in many organizations and many people have a positive outlook about AI job displacement. AI will impact business in several major ways, but it is not yet clear whether it will be positive or negative. Many are maintaining an optimistic demeanor on AI in the work force and I hope they are correct in doing so.
