BTF Cinema4aCause 2020 proudly presents “There is a Hope” by Ms. Jale İncekol , the beloved director who had given the screening rights of two movies “A Story with Music” and “A Hopeful Story” last year.

BTF Cinema4aCause is now presenting Jale İncekol’s latest documentary to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of Village Institutes in Turkey.

The movie is about the memories of teachers which cast the real teachers and students reflect our recent past and sheds light to our future.

The plot of the movie depicts that the rebirth of the county starts from the rural areas, improving the education first and this could be achieved by these village institutes.

Not only these institutes were educating kids on hands on courses such as horticulture, home economics, carpentry, livestock management, cooking and home improvement, but also giving classical music education and teaching creative arts. After students get the required education in these areas of disciplines, they were returning to their villages as teachers and teaching their students what they had already learnt.

Mr. Nevzat Ozmen writes:
“There was no rich and poor discrimination there. We were all eating, drinking the same things. We all were young but had different characters and abilities. Without making similarities between these different characters and abilities and knowing that we are all unique, we were a big family where everybody was linked to another with love and respect and we were working a lot and having much fun with teachers, students, headmasters and janitors.

Teacher: Yücel Güngör

Movie Synopsis

The documentary movie where retired Village Institute teachers tell their story, became the subject matter in the classes of two different schools. After contemplating the movie, the interested students visit with one of the film heroes who was a Village Institute graduate Yücel Güngör, at his house. The visitation bands together the city and the urban children who never met before and the students depart from this rendezvous with a very special gem: a letter which carries a bequest, addressed to the newly graduate teachers and conveyed by students, written by a retired teacher who identifies himself as a soldier of education!

Director’s Message

Jale Incekol

“The Village Institutes project helped bring an era of enlightenment to the field of education within the young Turkish Republic. These institutes have since been closed for many years. The history of the village institutes and reasons as to why they were closed down has been a subject of many films. My main objective in making the documentary film “A Story of Hope” is to shed a light on the path for today’s educators, students, and parents and emphasize the importance of the teaching profession, which has been ignored in modern day Turkish society. I wished to make a movie that is easily understood and felt by people from all ages and walks of life. For this reason, I intended to focus more on the pioneering role played by the the army of great educators created by these institutes in the development of the country and highlight the sacredness of the teaching profession rather than focusing on the history and the reasons for closure of these schools. The fact that the more than 200 actors who took part in this film were actual teachers and students turned this movie into a deeply meaningful experience for me and made the filming process easier.”
