Welcome to the first edition of the “Sui Weekly Digest” in “Building on Sui”. As we journey together through the uncharted territories of the Sui ecosystem, we believe it’s crucial to pause, reflect, and recap on the strides we’ve made.

This digest, which we’ll share weekly, aims to serve as your comprehensive guide to all the exciting developments from the past week. With in-depth exploration of the major events and news as well as Halcyon latest development update, it ensures you won’t miss a beat.

Thank you for being part of this exciting journey and for helping us build on Sui. Without further ado, let’s dive into this week’s highlights!

Inside Look at Halcyon Labs

After a period of silence post-mainnet launch, we at Halcyon Labs are excited to reconnect with the Sui community, and bring you up to speed on all the progress we’ve made.

Our journey before the mainnet launch was a whirlwind of innovation and collaboration. We pushed our boundaries to release the Bottle Dispenser, a proof-of-concept for our forthcoming SaaS whitelisting Dapp. Our partnerships flourished, allowing us to host multiple events to whitelist our enthusiastic community.

However, as the market conditions grew more challenging around the time of the mainnet launch, we found it best to postpone our NFT collection release and take a brief pause to recalibrate.

Now, we’re back, energized, and eager to share our latest updates!

First off, we’ve been brainstorming innovative ways to transform our NFT collection into a one-of-a-kind communal experience that rallies the entire Sui community. It’s still a budding idea, but we’ll share more about this exciting project as it takes shape.

Secondly, we’re thrilled to announce that we’re participating in the Sui x Kucoin Labs Hackathon! Our aim is to build an MVP of the tHrust Launchpad with our community. We’re planning to conduct test mints with potential customers and foster innovative partnerships with fellow builders. For those unfamiliar with the tHrust Launchpad, you can learn more about it here.

As a cherry on top, we are joined by three skilled individuals specializing in web development, business development, and marketing for the Hackathon. Their expertise will help us meet the Hackathon’s deadline and present a product that’s nothing short of amazing.

Deep Dive into Sui Ecosystem

SIP 6 — Enabling Liquid Staking on Sui

Liquid Staking is a process allowing users to stake their tokens (to secure the network) and in return, they receive a ‘liquid’ token representing their staked amount. This token can be traded, used as collateral or to earn yields. It’s about enhancing liquidity while still participating in network security.

Currently, when a user delegates $SUI to a validator, they get a `StakedSui` object in return, representing their position. It looks like this:

The thing to notice here is that the object doesn’t have the `store` ability, meaning that the object is not considered an asset and can’t be stored in global storage or transferred freely between account. Without this ability, LSD protocols need to store these objects under a centralized address managed by a multisig. The Sui Improvement Proposal 6 by Aftermath Finance solves this issue.

The object-centric model of Sui Move gives the ability to enable and restrict actions from entities on objects. By adding the `store` ability in addition to the `key` one, a struct becomes an asset on Sui. Now with this `store` ability, protocols like Aftermath can leave behind the old-fashioned centralized approach and shift to a fully decentralized model using shared objects. You can read more about it here.

Bushi is live on Mainnet

Bushi is 3rd person competitive shooter developed by a team
hat previously worked on Diablo 4, Gears of War and some EA sports titles. They aim to change e-sports and gaming forever, nothing less!

They partnered with powerful Web3 brands such as MonkeDAO and FuddiesNFT to feature them in game. Their Season 1 Battlepass sale is open on Clutchy, players that get multiple passes will be able to level them all up at the same time.

Blockvision launched a NFT dashboard

Blockvision is a renowned Web3 service provider operating on many ecosystems: Ethereum, BNB, Polygon, Arbitrum, Optimism, Scroll and Sui. They offer Node, Mempool, FT, NFT, and DeFi APIs but also more ways for developers to retrieve and manipulate data.

They’re doing a tremendous work on Web3 and for months they have been focusing intensively on Sui (they just got a grant). Until now they built:

  • Golang SDK
  • Indexing API
  • RPC Node with public & private endpoints
  • Sui Vision, an alternative to Sui Explorer

This explorer has just been extended with a all-in-one NFT dashboard including NFT market stats, marketplaces overview, collections details and NFT details.

Deep Book is live on MovEX Testnet

Deep Book is a decentralized central limit order book (CLOB) funded by the Sui Foundation because it is a public good. It offers a comprehensive solution for trading assets. It is permissionless and open-source as well as fully integrated into Sui framework.

Deepbook will accelerate the development of DeFi across Sui ecosystem by providing developers with a highly efficient, shared financial layer that is ready-built for trading fungible assets. It takes full advantage of Sui to provide low latency and high throughput execution.

This CLOB is also open to anyone who wants to contribute. joinMovEX was the first core contributor but they were rapidly joined by Turbos_finance, AftermathFi, CetusProtocol, TypusFinance, Suia2023 and nojo_swap.

You can now try out the functionality, participate in testing, and provide your feedback to earn rewards.

And there you have it! We’ve come to the end of our first “Sui Weekly Digest”. We hope this comprehensive guide helps you navigate the vibrant landscape of the Sui ecosystem. You may find more news by reading Sui Daily Highlights 1, 2, 3, 4. Remember, these highlights and updates are but stepping stones in our collective journey of building and expanding on Sui.

Stay tuned for our next edition, where we’ll continue to bring the world of Sui to your fingertips. Until then, happy building, and may your adventures in Sui be ever exciting!
