Meet the Panorama crew!

Our Product Design team is quickly growing, and we’re looking for Product Designers of all levels to join us in our Boston-based office!

Haven’t heard of us? Panorama Education is a fast growing startup that helps educators understand how students are doing across academics, attendance, behavior, and college readiness, and then plan for action to support each student’s unique needs and circumstances. Today, we reach over 10 million students in the U.S.!

What’s the design team like?

Great design is central to Panorama Education’s product and mission. We want our product to both delight teachers and educators across the country and to help them drive action to improve outcomes for their students.

Our Product Design team is small, so we’re pumped for the opportunity to welcome more designers! We work super closely with our Product and Engineering teams, in cross-functional squads.

We currently have seven squads: some are more back-end-focused, while three are responsible for building user-facing features. These three squads typically consist of a product manager, a designer, 3–5 engineers, and a customer success team member. While designers are embedded into squads, we also work closely together to ensure we’re collectively building a cohesive experience for our users, across features and products.

What would I work on?

At our scale, designers have the ability to move across squads to work on the highest priority projects. This is a huge plus all around; we get exposure to a variety of work, are able to contribute where our skills are well-aligned, and build expertise across our products. We are growing in order to support the ambitious roadmap that’s ahead of us, and there’s a lot of exciting work in store.

Here are some of the things we’re currently focused on:

Student Success and MTSS

Our Student Success product provides a complete picture of every student’s academic, attendance, behavior, and social-emotional learning (SEL) progress in school. With Success, educators can monitor how students are doing, and coordinate action to support each child.

Earlier this fall, we launched tools for intervention management within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). Teachers, counselors, and other educators have been using these tools since back-to-school, and we’re eager to learn how well they’re working. As designers, we’ll be talking to our clients for feedback, and continuing to refine and improve these tools.

Surveys and SEL

Panorama was built upon our Surveys platform. For over seven years, we’ve been helping schools and districts collect and understand feedback through student voice, school climate, and engagement surveys. Through social-emotional learning (SEL) surveys, we’re able to help educators understand and support each student with skills like growth mindset, self-efficacy, social awareness, and self-management. We are planning some exciting improvements for our Surveys and SEL products!

Tools for our clients

We want to ensure that schools and districts can use our systems in the best possible way to meet their unique goals. For each product, this means building tools that empower our clients and our own team to efficiently configure their experience, administer surveys and integrate data. As we expand our products and partner with more schools across the country, we hope to make this process as smooth as possible so that every educator can quickly access the data they need to support their students!

Our new design system

Our products are growing up! While we do have a style guide, as our products have evolved over time and different folks have worked on them, inconsistencies have crept in. Now with our teams and our product offering growing, it feels like the right time to be investing in building and implementing a design system. This has been one of my passion projects, but there’s still a ton of opportunity for a designer to shape it!

What would make a designer successful at Panorama?

With a small design team, every hire has a huge impact on our team and culture. We are excited to work with people who care about making a difference in education. We are looking for designers who bring complementary skills and strengths to diversify our team, and have an interest in helping their colleagues grow to collectively level up our team.

Product designers are responsible for the end-to-end design process, from ideation and research through execution. Here are some of the things that are most important to us:

Collaborative. This is a given! With designers divided into squads, it can be easy to be laser-focused on your own work, so we value folks who combat this with a collaborative mindset. We believe that leveraging each other pushes us to create better experiences overall.

Curious and motivated. Gaining domain knowledge and understanding the education landscape is critical for success. We owe it to the districts, schools, and students that we support to learn as much as we can to make smarter, more informed design decisions.

A champion of quality. We care deeply about creating a high-quality product and overall user experience and seek designers who will go that extra mile. If we don’t sweat the details, who else will?

Adaptable and open. We’re a start-up and this means projects and priorities can often change. An ability to embrace change and roll with ambiguity is important. We also appreciate adaptability and openness to processes and ways of working; we believe in trying new things if something isn’t working!
